Conference "Churches instrument of peace?"

MESSAGE


In every place and in any event, we are raping the world is our home. Violence in the cities, economy, violence against women and girls, against nature and all living beings. Violence has become part of our daily lives and we used to consider it inevitable. We find

violence even within the biblical account, and some violence was also justified by the churches, and within the churches themselves. Yet the Scriptures tell us of a SHALOM which embraces all living creatures and the Earth itself, which pushes human beings to peace and justice, which converts the human heart.

Today we, believers in every church, we decided to say a no to the violence in the world. We want to embrace and proclaim the great revelation of nonviolence and peace of God

For these reasons, we join with all our heart and we place great hope in the International Ecumenical Peace Convocation to be held in Kingston in May next year. We believe that the churches engaged together in the path of nonviolence, were finally able to give a decisive push towards world peace. The meeting on June 2, 2010 in Milan wants to be a step in this journey and an Italian contribution the Convocation for Peace.

Kingston 2011 and will end the decade, mostly to the efforts to overcome violence promoted by the World Council of Churches (http://overcomingviolence.org/), thus opening a new phase of the Church for peace

Bitterly We see violence increase.
- Just in Kingston, the place chosen for the Convocation on World Peace, a few days ago, clashes erupted between police and gangs linked to drug trafficking. Thousands of people have been arrested and there are fears for police abuses, many of them dead, surely will grow the instinct for revenge fueling the spiral of violence, with the risk of a devastating civil war.
- In those days, not far from the sea that washes the shores of Jamaica, the island of which Kingston is the capital, has been consumed yet another environmental disaster produced by the oil industry. Apart from minor but very important phenomenon in both secular and religious, no political program or any government program, at least in the West, has taken on climate change and respect for human life not as a constraint on the greed of our species. Millions of people - and although informed by climate change has already begun - with the conduct of their production, consumption, violence in various forms, decreed the death of the planet every day.
- The world is undergoing a severe economic crisis. In Italy we announce great sacrifices and billionaire maneuvers involving reductions in welfare. Yet military spending is not affected by the crisis and cuts, increases the activity of the Italian armed forces abroad, and recently the Italian government, covered by a great silence, had undertaken, with the U.S., purchase of 131 fighter jets war at a cost of more than 13 billion €, which are an insult to morality and the fundamental principles of our Constitution (Article 11). we strongly question. What they say, we believe, these signs of the times?
Too few community prophetic practice peace, denounce and oppose economic imbalances, reduce the consumption of the planet by promoting new lifestyles. The road to Kingston

It raises the question:
which God will rule? The God of life and the blessings shared, or the god of selfishness and profit? They will
churches and believers to make room for the Spirit of God that frees us and gives us a hope in this alternative economy that consumes the world and brings violence and exploitation in any relationship?
